The All About Savings team have stumbled across some figures that show British Gas were the most search for energy supplier in July this year.
People in Britain who searched for the most competitive gas or electricity rates obviously favoured British Gas as they had a 26% share in online visibility. Rival to British Gas, Npower came a close second place with 22% and EDF a respectable third place with 15% of the online search visibility.
The same research has also shown that searches for gas, electricity and other utility based terms on the search engine Google were in decline. Since March this year people searching on google for energy based terms has seen a massive decline, this we think is due to the great summer Britain has seen. Most people have most likely been out enjoying the sun instead of been sat inside behind a laptop or computer.
Although there has been a decline in searches for energy terms since March, this year is still on track to beat last year. Searches between the period of May to July where just shy of 800,000 this is well up on the same time last year when they were just under 700,0000.
We think the searches are up as consumers are becoming more savvy when it comes to finding the best energy prices. Trust from the consumers in the energy suppliers has declined over the last year, the result of this is that people search around more in order to try and find the cheapest gas and electricity prices.
Something that will not surprise many people is that searches peaked at their highest in December 2012 at four hundred and thirty thousand. This being due to the cold weather that Britain received just before this time, resulting in higher energy bills and consumers looking for more competitive prices.
