primary fuel production in the United Kingdom

The Department of Energy & Climate Change have released figures that show the primary fuel production in the United Kingdom has fallen.

We classify primary fuel as a product that can harvested from the earth without the the need to for any sort of conversion process. In the three month period up to June this year the production of primary fuels in the United Kingdom was at the oil equivalent of 28.7M tonnes of oil. When we compare this to the same time period of last year it shows we are almost 10% shyer this year.

This fall in primary fuel production has dropped as a result of…
In the UK we have seen the coal, petroleum, natural gas and nuclear energy production fall over the last year. The production methods that were up in comparison to the same time the year before are hydroelectricity and wind production that had almost doubled.

Primary fuels are simply not being consumed as fast as they used too in the UK with consumption down by two point four percent for the second quarter of this year. This drop is the equivalent of almost fifty million tonnes of oil.

A very interesting statistic that the Department of Energy & Climate Change have released was to do with the energy prices in the UK. According to the DECC the price of domestic electricity was 5.9% higher in the second quarter of 2013 in comparison to the same time the year before. Thought that was bad enough news well the price of domestic gas prices also went up by 6.5% for the second quarter of 2013, in comparison to the same period in 2012. Both gas and electricity of course including VAT.

Another statistic released that many people in the UK will already know is that petrol prices have risen over the last year. In the month up to half way through August this year, petrol prices rose by £0.024 per litre.

The Department of Energy and Climate change will be releasing more figures later on this month, it will be interesting to see if they will incorporate anything to do with business electricity or business gas prices in the new report. The All About Savings team has noticed that energy prices for businesses is slowly increasing year on year, something that many people do not realise.
