A company called ComRes have carried about a survey for BBC Radio 5 Live a couple of weeks ago, according to this survey thirty eight percent of people and businesses in the Britain are worried about the potential energy bills they are going to face this winter.
The survey showed us that as a result of the energy bill concerns 63% of British people are going to try and cut their energy usage to reduce the risk of having financial problems later in the year. This means that over half of Britain is thinking about how they can save energy in their home or business to reduce expenditure, this will also have a positive effect on our nation’s Co2 emissions.
Apparently a quarter of British people have already dealt with cold weather in their home or business, this so they would not have to turn their heating on in an attempt to reduce their domestic or business gas or electricity bills.
People are calling the government to tackle rising energy prices
The government has already said it is doing everything in its power to tackle the fuel poverty problems in the United Kingdom, but the opposing political party Labour has said the fuel poverty problem in the UK has got worse since the coalition gained power. Everyone can see that the government is simply not doing enough to eradicate fuel poverty from Britain and that they need to take stronger action to stop the hiking energy prices.
The North West of England along with Yorkshire are supposed to be the most affected areas when talking about fuel poverty. Other areas such as Humber, Northern Ireland and the West Midlands are all suppose to be struggling with the gas and electricity prices as well.
Domestic and business energy consumers are seeking a new solution to make energy affordable for all, with a massive 69% of people in the survey wanting the ‘Big Six’ energy suppliers to be nationalised with the hope of cheaper energy prices.
The survey also showed that a large percentage of people and businesses in the United Kingdom want to back renewable energy sources, but this would only be if they would bring lower energy prices. A whopping 84% of people said they would like solar panels to be installed in their local area, but only if it would reduce the amount their home or business pays for electricity.
A statistic that shocked the All About Savings team was that 67% of British people would support building more coal, oil and gas power stations if it reduced the electricity and gas prices. This sort of means that the majority of people are not bothered about how the energy is produced as long as its cheap. This sort of attitude from British people will never help our nation to become a low carbon emitter.
