The UK based energy suppliers are being targeted by MPs because of massive shortfalls in the ways that they are explaining why the energy prices are rising. As a result of the lack of communication the energy suppliers are making with their customers their is a large amount of mistrust from the customers, many of which can not work out if they are getting a good deal or not.

MPs around the country are not happy that the energy regulator Ofgem have not taken it upon themselves to improve the way that the energy companies report and listen to customer criticism. According to MPs Ofgem also has no way of measuring the competition in the gas and electricity market.

A recent report that has been published by the Energy and Climate Change Committee showed that the amount of homeowners and businesses that have complained about gas and electricity debts have reached record heights. The number of people that have complained about energy debts have doubled over the last 5 years.

Many of these people who are making complaints about gas and electricity debts are people who have been unexpectedly hit with larger bills due to price increases. As these people say they were unaware of the price increases they could not afford to pay for their gas and electricity when they received the bills as they did not budget it.

The national advice groupe the National Debtline have received a large amount of calls from people pleading for help about their energy bills, it was actually revealed that more people have called about energy debts than payday loans.

The MPs are criticising the energy firms saying the way they increase their prices is not transparent enough and that they need to make they way their bill the energy consumers clearer.

From 2007 to the present the cost of gas and electricity domestically has risen forty one percent, these figures have been released by the Department for Energy and Climate Change in a recent report. This data correlates with the eleven percent increase of energy prices since the start of this year.

What is most astonishing is that the biggest energy suppliers in the UK have seen record years in terms of profits, do you think this is some sort of coincidence or does this coincide with the recent gas and electricity price increases?

The MPs that are apart of the Energy and Climate Change committee have made it clear that they can see big shortfalls in the way the energy suppliers are explaining these recent price increases. As a result of this the energy consumers around Britain are starting to loose their trust in the energy suppliers.
